Berberis thunbergii Red Chief

A medium-sized deciduous shrub, usually 1.5-2m tall and wide. It is valued for its bright red leaves, which add a touch of color to the garden from spring to autumn. It achieves its most intense leaf color in a sunny spot; it also tolerates partial shade, but the variety's characteristic leaf color will not be as strong. It grows well in well-structured soil rich in nutrients. It is drought-tolerant and has low water needs, but young plants should be watered after planting. It can be pruned to the desired shape. An excellent choice as a specimen plant, in group plantings or as a hedge, especially because of its red leaves and dense foliage.
